Johns’ Boys will perform at the New Theatre Cardiff on Sunday 3rd October as part of an extensive 2027 UK and Ireland tour, following a decade which has taken the choir from North Wales to national television and international recognition.
The Wrexham-based group recently celebrated its 10th anniversary with two packed performances at William Aston Hall, featuring a 37-piece orchestra and Johns’ Boys Juniors, aged nine to 18.
Audiences travelled from Germany and the United States for concerts featuring Nessun Dorma, Calon Lân, Angels and new song To This Very Moment.
Television and Awards
Johns’ Boys reached the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent in 2023 and is the first and only British male voice choir to win the prestigious Pavarotti Choir of the World title.
Anniversary Weekend
Founder and conductor Aled Phillips said the anniversary weekend had demonstrated the continuing appeal of Welsh male voice singing.
It was an incredible couple of nights and quite overwhelming to see two sold-out audiences celebrating 10 years with us.
He added:
We had people travelling from Germany and even the United States. One gentleman had come all the way from America without a ticket, so we had to spin a few plates and thankfully managed to find him a seat!
One of the things I was most proud of was seeing the Juniors up there. There were understandably some nerves, but they handled the occasion brilliantly.
We want to inspire the next generation and give young people experiences like this. Performing in front of those audiences alongside Johns’ Boys and a 37-piece orchestra is something they will never forget.
Welsh Tour Dates
The Cardiff performance is among several Welsh dates on the tour, including concerts in Newtown, Rhyl, Swansea and Wrexham.
Aled said:
We're really looking forward to performing in Cardiff. As a Welsh choir, bringing our music to the capital is always special and we're excited to take to the stage at the New Theatre.
He added:
We like to do things a little differently. We are proud of the traditions of Welsh male voice singing, but we are also contemporary and want to try new things.
Bringing together the choir, Juniors and orchestra was an exciting mix and where possible we would love to take elements of that into next year.
The choir is considering larger venues for future concerts, with the dream of performing at Wrexham AFC's STōK Cae Ras.
Tickets and tour information can be found on the Johns’ Boys website.
